Rob Taylor joins Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan

(March 9, 2017) After a three-year hiatus, STAA member Rob Taylor is back on the sports side of broadcasting. Taylor is joining 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland (WKRK-FM) as a Sports Update Anchor.

Taylor has most recently worked on-air as music talent for WDHT-FM in Dayton, OH. His previous sports experience includes sports show producing and hosting a Cincinnati Reds Warmup Pre-Game Show for WING-AM.

Securing a job at 92.3 The Fan is a goal that Taylor has been working towards since the station launched six years ago. Taylor began cultivating a relationship with station Program Director Andy Roth.

“Anchor positions have been appearing on STAA and the CBS Radio website from time to time, and when a few positions opened in early 2017, I was able to acquire one of them.”

Focusing on sports is just one reason Taylor wanted to work at The Fan.

“I truly feel as though sports radio will be a very rock solid format for years to come,” Taylor explains.

“Also, sports radio truly can show a talent’s real personality, whereas many music stations are much more music-intensive.”

A five-year STAA member, Taylor has taken advantage of many features including educational material and attending STAA’s One Day Ticket To Sportscasting Success seminar.

“I was afforded the chance to hear Bob Costas, Dan Shulman, Wes Durham and other notables tell their inspiring stories. I always receive information about job openings and ways to make my overall resume better. Not just the paper resume, but acting the part of a broadcaster, how not to get into outside trouble when employed, etc.”

Perhaps the most important problem that STAA helped Taylor solve is one of connection.

“My biggest challenge was not feeling a part of the ‘Sports Broadcasting Family.’ Being a member of STAA has enabled me to meet new peers in the industry, and ‘act the part,’ as we all work toward the goal of moving the format and industry to new heights.”
