(March 24, 2011) ESPN and its various properties set the pace with Sports Emmy Awards nominations.
The worldwide leader notched 36 nods, including a dozen tied to its presentation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup from South Africa, the most for any entrant from a single production. The programmer's other vehicles combined for another 16 nominations. The Emmys, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for AL Michaels, currently the play-by-play man for NBC's Sunday Night Football, will be presented May 2 in New York. Michaels, along with Joe Buck (Fox), Bob Costas (MLB Network), Mike Emrick (NBC), Verne Lundquist (CBS) and Jim Nantz (CBS), is among the nominees for "Outstanding Sports Personality: Play-by-Play." Relative to the "Outstanding Sports Personality - Sports Event Analyst" category the nominees: Cris Collinsworth (NBC), Jon Gruden (ESPN), Orel Hershiser (ESPN), Phil Simms (CBS) and Jeff Van Gundy (ABC).
