Harry Twinowitz still MIA at WMVPCourtesy

(March 17, 2011) Harry Teinowitz's picture remains on the WMVP-AM/1000 website, and bumpers for "The Afternoon Saloon" show still mention his name.
But his voice continues to be missing from the afternoon-drive program on the ESPN-owned station. Mr. Teinowitz was off the air again Tuesday as Carmen DeFalco and John Jurkovic handled the duties. Mr. Teinowitz's only appearance following his arrest on charges of DUI on March 4 came March 8. He opened with an apology and did the remainder of the show. He then was suspended for the rest of the week and was supposed to return to the air on Monday. When details of the Skokie police report of his arrest were revealed Friday afternoon, however, the situation changed. The report said he had marijuana residue on his shirt, although he wasn't charged with possession. At that point, an ESPN spokesman in Bristol, Conn., said the company was reviewing additional information and Mr. Teinowitz wouldn't be back Monday. There's plenty of speculation in the Chicago radio community that Mr. Teinowitz is done at WMVP. Logically, you have to think that the longer this goes on, it can't be good for Mr. Teinowitz. ESPN hasn't shown much tolerance of late for employees who get in trouble with the law and otherwise. An ESPN source, though, said the company reviews each case on an individual basis and warned against drawing any conclusions about Mr. Teinowitz. Regardless, the situation comes at a bad time for the show. This is a high-interest period for sports, with the NCAA tournament, the NFL labor impasse and the upcoming start of the baseball season. Ideally, you would want to be at full strength. "The Afternoon Saloon" continues to play one man down. Read more at
