Rock Cats renew radio dealPress Release
(March 14, 2011) The New Britain Rock Cats, Connecticut’s oldest continuously-operating professional sports franchise, announced today that they have extended their broadcast partnership with WTIC Radio into the 2011 Season. The new agreement means that the highly-regarded, Farmington-based outlet will again carry all 142 of the Eastern League club’s games in the upcoming Regular Season, a campaign that will run from April to September. All games will air on 96.5 WTIC-FM’s HD2 channel while also streaming online at www.wtic.com; twenty 2011 Rock Cats contests will be broadcast live on the station’s 50,000-watt powerhouse, WTIC NewsTalk 1080.*
Moreover, a new listening option will also be available to Rock Cats followers this coming season as all 142 games will be available on the radio.com app for iphones and android phones allowing fans to listen to Rock Cats Baseball anywhere. Rock Cats President and CEO Bill Dowling said “We are delighted to be renewing our relationship with WTIC Radio’s uniquely experienced family of broadcast professionals. Their state-of-the-art technical capacity gives our broadcasts the highest audio quality possible, while their powerful transmitter expands the listening range for our wide base of fans. And the presence of radio icons Joe D’Ambrosio in the booth - and Scott Gray on the field – provides a level of baseball insight and historical knowledge that is second-to- none.” High Definition (HD) radio transmissions utilize digital signals rather than conventional analog output. While all radio signals inevitably encounter objects in their pathways, HD digital radio receivers are designed to sort through such reflected signals, filtering out static while markedly extending the HD signal’s reach. Accordingly, this conversion has delivered crisper Rock Cats audio for more fans at greater distances. Suzanne McDonald, CBS Radio’s Hartford Senior Vice President/Market Manager, stated “We are very excited about our terrific partnership with the Rock Cats, and being able to continue making these games available to the fans. We take pride in serving the community through our unique sports broadcast line-up that also includes The Connecticut Whale, Red Sox, and UConn Football and Men’s and Women’s Basketball”. Jeff Dooley, the Rock Cats Director of Broadcasting, returns to the booth in 2011 for his 14th season as “Voice of the Rock Cats”. Jeff will again host both pre-and post-game shows for all 142 Rock Cats contests in the upcoming season. The veteran play-by-play announcer will kick off the 2011 season on WTIC NewsTalk 1080 on March 21st when he’ll host a one-hour Spring Training Special from Ft. Myers, Florida. Airing at 6:10 PM, the live broadcast from Hammond Stadium - site of the Minnesota Twins’ Spring Training camp – will feature numerous on-site guests and serve as a fun preview of the upcoming baseball season in the Hardware City!
