(March 8, 2011) We’ll have numouers posts in the upcomning days about the new era of how the NCAA Basketball Tournament will be covered, now that Turner Sports joined forces with CBS.

In its simplest form, know that all games will be shown in their entirety on either CBS, TBS, TNT or TruTV, the latter three Turner-owned networks. What has yet to be hammered out is how many viewers will be able to see the games assigned to TruTV in high-definition.

“All games are being produced in hi-def,” David Levy, president of sales, distribution and sports, said today during an NCAA Tournament press briefing. “Any cable, satellite or cell phone can get these games in hi-def. They just have to pick up TruTV in hi-def.:

Yet most major cable operators, including Time Warner, do not offer TruTV in hi-def. Neither does DirecTV, the nation’s largest satellite distributor with more than 19 million homes.

“ There’s a huge effort right now, as we speak, we’re talking to Comcast and all of our distributors to try to upgrade their systems to take TruTV in hi-def,” Levy said. “We’re talking to them as recently as last night. We’re trying to figure out a way to make it work.”

The tournament begins next Tuesday, and TruTV will have the “First Four” — doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
