(March 7, 2011) The Atlanta Falcons want to move to a new open-air stadium, but first they’re moving to a new spot on the radio dial.
Lincoln Financial Media stations Star 94 (WSTR - 94.1 FM), which has a100,000 watt reach, and Sports Radio 790 The Zone (WQXI -790 AM) will become flagships of the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network for the next four seasons. The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed. Both stations will simulcast all Falcons regular and pre-season football games, along with pre and post-game shows, beginning with the 2011 season. Veteran sports broadcaster Wes Durham will continue as play-by-play announcer, while former Falcons quarterback Dave Archer will maintain his role as color analyst. "We are thrilled to be partners with the pre-eminent sports franchise in Atlanta," said Andrew Saltzman, vice president and general manager of Sports Radio 790 The Zone. "Both Star 94 and 790 The Zone have always been part of the fabric of Atlanta and with the passion for the Falcons at an all time high right now, we are very excited about our future together.” On-air talent from 790 The Zone will have a part in pre-game, halftime and post-game productions, and will provide ongoing coverage throughout the season. 790 The Zone personalities will be integrated into all Falcons branded programming on the Falcons' new television partner, CBS Atlanta 46 (WGCL-TV). The Falcons’ first season in 1966 was broadcast on WQXI-AM and WKXI-FM (now WSTR/Star 94). The relationship continued into the mid-1970s. Read more at
