(February 18, 2011) As the National Basketball Association pulls into its all-star break, the league is enjoying increased viewership, the best in years.
The average rating for the seven games so far this season on ABC-TV are up 36% compared to the four games over the same time last season (3.8 compared to 2.8). The 47 telecasts on ESPN have averaged a 1.3 rating, up 18% compared to the 1.1 rating for 45 telecasts last season. On TNT, 36 NBA telecasts have averaged 1.6, up 33% over the 35 telecasts over the same period last season. (1.2). You don’t need to be a summa cum laude graduate to figure out that the creation of another marquee team in the league, the Miami Heat, has boosted national interest in the NBA this season.
