(February 14, 2011) Radio listeners who have tuned into 950 AM lately noticed a change in programming.
WCLB 950 AM, a sports talk radio station based in Sheboygan, has changed its affiliation from ESPN to Fox Sports Radio. The changes went into effect Feb. 1. "Aligning with Fox Sports Radio puts our company under the same umbrella as Fox Sports TV where most Wisconsin sports fans watch Packers football, the Brewers and Bucks on a regular basis. That will allow us better access to covering the local teams in our state," said program director Wade Bates. Gone are ESPN shows like Mike & Mike in the Morning and Colin Cowherd, and in are shows by Dan Patrick and Jim Rome, among others. In a statement, Mountain Dog Media, which owns the station, said "contract changes and requirements on ESPN were preventing us from fully realizing our strategy of providing unique sports programming with a local emphasis." According to several published reports, ESPN Radio has dramatically raised its prices for affiliates. "WCLB has always been about offering listeners strong personality-based sports content," the statement read. "The time was right for us to get on board with the growing popularity of the Fox Sports Radio line ups." "The Afternoon Show with Huffy," produced in Fond du Lac, will still air from 3-5 p.m. on weekdays. Weekday Lineup on Fox Sports 950 The Game 5-8 a.m.: "Zakk & Jack" — "Jack" is former NFL quarterback Jack Trudeau 8-11 a.m.: "Dan Patrick" — Longtime sports host and former ESPN SportsCenter anchor interviews the best from sports and entertainment 11 a.m.-2 p.m.: "Jim Rome" — Edgy radio and TV host gets top-of-the-line guests and is host of ESPN's "Jim Rome is Burning" 2-3 p.m.: "Loose Cannons" — Longtime sports/entertainment host Pat O'Brien is joined by Steve Hartman and Vic "The Brick" Jacobs. 3-5 p.m.: "Afternoon Show with Huffy" — Local program continues to take a look at local, state and national sports 5-6 p.m.: "Loose Cannons" 6-9 p.m.: "Petros & Money" 9 p.m.-12 a.m.: "Tony Bruno" — One of sports radio's pioneers 12-5 a.m. — "JT The Brick" Read more at
