Super impact on some U.S. TV marketsCourtesy
the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
(February 9, 2011) There are some interesting nuggets in the ways Super Bowl XLV was viewed in some television markets around the country.
Let's consider Chicago, where the Bears were beaten by the Packers in the NFC Championship. In the nation's third-largest market, the Packers-Steelers Super Bowl had an overnight rating of 51.4, beating the rating in that market for the Bears-Colts Super Bowl XLI (50.2). The 51.4 is Chicago's highest rating ever for a non-Bears Super Bowl. The Dallas market, fifth-largest in the country, which hosted Super Bowl XLV, delivered 700,000 more households for the game than Miami did the previous season. Miami, which hosted the Saints-Colts Super Bowl, is the16th-largest TV market in the U.S. New York, the largest TV market, delivered a 42.6 rating for the game, the best for a non-Giants Super Bowl in 28 years. Las Vegas, where you can bet on the Super Bowl legally, delivered a 49.7 for the game. Read more at
