Vinny Cerrato excelling in radioCourtesy

(January 21, 2011) Onetime top Redskins official Vinny Cerrato appears focused on a new career in sports-talk radio.
For the past season, Cerrato, Washington's former executive vice president of football operations, has worked as an NFL analyst for 1050 ESPN New York. And Cerrato has become an integral part of the station's coverage of the league, according to his supervisor. "He's been with us all season, and he's co-hosted various programs as a special NFL inside analyst around all of the big games this season," said David Roberts, the station's vice president and general manager. "He's gonna be on Saturday afternoon previewing the game, the [New York] Jets game, for the AFC Championship. Actually, he'll preview both [the AFC and NFC championship games]." As loyal Redskins Insider readers surely remember, Cerrato hosted a short-lived radio show on ESPN 980, which also is owned by Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder. I was a guest on the show a few times and listened whenever it aired, and Cerrato, in my opinion, seemed happiest when he spoke about any subject other than the Redskins. Cerrato has emerged as an effective analyst in his current role because "he does not hold back," Roberts said. "He's not worried [that] what he says might prevent him from getting another executive role with a team in the NFL." Cerrato clearly enjoys his job, Roberts said. "This is something that he has really applied himself to," he said. "He comes prepared, he plans, he researches, he maximizes all of the contacts he has acquired over the course of his career. "And once he's on the air, he does a real excellent job, just an excellent job, putting a game, and various aspects of a game, into perspective. It's a win-win for the station. It's a win-win for the fans, who any time he's on the air, will learn something unique that they won't get anywhere else." Read more at
