(January 20, 2011) The Carolina Mudcats have announced that their 2011 broadcast package will be expanded to include HD Radio and national audio distribution on the leading mobile devices including Blackberry, iPhone and Android.

Clear Channel Raleigh’s WRDU-FM HD2 will serve as the team’s flagship station for all 140 regular season games providing coverage throughout the five county region. WRDU-FM 106.1 will also carry all 22 Saturday night games live on their standard FM channel now also available in high definition.

First Media’s WZAX-FM (“Jammin 99.3”) will join the Mudcats Network for approximately 95 regular season games providing early in the week FM radio coverage for the team in Rocky Mount, Wilson, Zebulon and eastern Wake County.

For the first time, all 2011 Mudcats games will also be heard nationwide on the leading mobile devices via the “Tunein Radio” application. Smart Phone adoption has exploded in 2010 and is expected to account for nearly 40% all local cell phone use by this spring according to published research. Over 90% of Americans carry cell phones with most expected to eventually convert to these Smart Phones.

“Clear Channel is pleased to bring the Mudcats brand of family entertainment to WRDU as a way to introduce more people to HD radio,” said Clear Channel’s Market Manager Dick Harlow. WRDU HD-2 normally programs a Country format.

Portable HD radios provide excellent audio quality and are now for sale at leading retailers for as little as $50. Installed HD receivers are also now a core element of entertainment packages offered by many leading automakers including Ford, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Lincoln, Volvo, VW and others. More than three thousand broadcast stations nationwide have made the commitment to upgrade to the new HD technology.
