(January 18, 2011) You may have heard him on sports talk radio in Wichita for years. Now Paul Savage is taking a leave of abscene from the radio.

He's running for Wichita city council instead.

Savage will run for District 2, for council member Sue Schlapp's seat.

Savage co-hosts Pressbox on 1410 AM. He told Eyewitness News Monday night, the decision to get off the air was a mutual one, to avoid any implications about equal time from other candidates.

Savage says his show is about sports, and he wouldn't be talking politics, but he didn't want to take any chances.

He will take a leave of abscene until the primary. If he goes on to the general election in April, he'll continue his leave.
