STAA's Andy Furman to host morning showCourtesy
the Cincinnati Enquirer
(December 9, 2010) Finally! Soon we won’t have to wait until Mo or Lance come on at 3 p.m. (or 6 p.m.) to talk about last night’s games…. Starting Jan. 3, STAA client Andy Furman’s sports talk show moves from afternoons to morning drive on “Real Talk” WQRT-AM (1160).
We haven’t had a local morning sports talk show since Clear Channel dumped Alan Cutler on WCKY-AM in an April 2009 budget cut, and replaced him with a syndicated show. We didn’t have any morning local sports talk program last fall when the Bengals and Bearcats football teams were good, or throughout the Reds pennant chase last year. Furman – who returned to his 5-7 p.m. show yesterday from hip replacement surgery — will broadcast 7-9 a.m. from Graeter’s shop on Fountain Square, says Jamey Schleue, the regional sales manager recently named station manager for WQRT-AM (1160) and sister Christian station WCVX-AM (1050). It’s also a good move for tiny WQRT-AM, because morning drive is “prime-time” for radio listening…. a strong morning show drives listenership throughout the day, so it should help the audience for Laura Ingraham and financial guru Dave Ramsey…. and Dennis Miller…. Would you listen to Furman in the morning over ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” or Fox Sports’ “Stephen A. Smith?” Yes, Dennis Miller. Starting Monday, Miller’s national show will air noon-2 p.m., replacing Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Dr. Laura’s show was leaving the station anyway at the end of the month, when she moves over to Sirius/XM satellite. No word on what will air in afternoons when Furman goes mornings. Read more at
