(November 22, 2010) The voice generations of Toledoans have grown to know and love has been silenced.

Frank was a sportscaster for sure, but he was a Toledo guy first and foremost. He was the voice of the 1953 Toledo Sox that won a pennant.

Frank remembered his early days as being "a little scary cause I never spoke in a microphone in my life. It was an on the job training. It worked out very well. I'll never forget that. I can remember things that happened that year, like they happened yesterday,"

Long associated with the Mud Hens, Frank's local broadcasting career reached well beyond the booth. The longtime sports anchor at Channel 13 was part of our family.

Frank had a knack for making everything seem big time. Most would say he was everything that was right about sports in Toledo.

This spring, in recognition of his 60 years with the Toledo Mud Hens, Frank was given the "Spirit of the International League" award at "Frank Gilhooley Day" during a pregame ceremony. It was a high point in a difficult year filled with health problems and the loss of his beloved wife of 56 years, Lydia.

As sure as the final out in any ball game, all good things and all good lives come to an end. We'll miss you, Frank!
