(November 2, 2010) Cavaliers Hall of Fame radio announcer Joe Tait had a blood clot in his lung and spent Sunday night in the Cleveland Clinic's intensive-care unit.
Tait, 73, passed out at his home in Westfield Township and was transported to Medina Hospital. From there, he was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic, where he underwent an "umbrella" filter procedure on Monday to help prevent further clots from reaching his lungs. He is expected to remain at the Cleveland Clinic for several days, and his previously planned double bypass and aortic valve replacement surgery will be scheduled after further evaluation. "He's the voice of the franchise," Cavs coach Byron Scott said. "I was looking forward to having some of our old-school talks. I know he's old school. I'm hoping and praying he'll be OK. I hope everyone in Cleveland is praying for him, too, and that he has a speedy recovery." The players got in on the accolades. "What he's done in the past decades is great," Cavs guard Mo Williams said. "It shows you the longevity and success he's had. It shows the respect he gets from not only Cleveland, but the world in general." This is Tait's 38th and final season with the Cavs. He's been with the team for all but two years since its inception in 1970. Mike Snyder and Jim Chones are filling in for Tait on WTAM-AM 1100.
