Christine Simpson joins Devils broadcasts
(October 19, 2010) Christine Simpson has joined the Devils' MSG Plus broadcast team as a host and will make her first appearance on Thursday night when the team faces the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.
She joins Mike “Doc” Emrick, Glenn “Chico” Resch, Steve Cangialosi and Ken Daneyko. Simpson’s first host appearance will come on Nov. 24 when the Devils play the Calgary Flames. She will host when Cangialosi moves over to call play-by-play. “Christine has grown up around hockey, and her knowledge and passion for the sport shine through on air,” said Jeff Filippi, senior vice president and executive producer of MSG Networks. “We’re thrilled to have her join one of the top broadcast teams in the sport.” Simpson, whose brother Craig is a former NHL player, was raised in London, Ont. “I’m very excited to be joining the Devils broadcast team on MSG Plus,” Simpson said in a statement. “Not only am I looking forward to working with a crew that includes some of the best in the business, I think everyone in the hockey world is expecting big things from the Devils this season. I’m just lucky enough to have a front row seat.” Simpson began her broadcasting career in 1998 at Rogers Sportsnet and spent 10 years with the network as a hockey features reporter. She also served as the host of self-titled segments called “Showtime with Chris Simpson,” which featured entertainment & sports stories. She has reported for NHL broadcasts on ABC, ESPN and Versus. During the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Simpson hosted “Centre Ice with Chris Simpson” at Molson Canadian Hockey House, where she interviewed some of hockey’s most legendary alumni. Before her time as a broadcaster, Simpson was the Marketing Manager at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. Her younger brother Craig Simpson won two Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers and is currently an analyst with “Hockey Night in Canada” on CBC.
