Comcast to air KGOW morning showCourtesy

(October 8, 2010) Comcast Sports Southwest, the Houston iteration of Comcast’s 13-state network that stretches across SEC and ACC country, will add its first local Houston show in mid-November — a live broadcast of the 6 to 7 a.m. hour of KGOW’s (1560 AM) morning show featuring John Granato and Lance Zierlein.
Mark Fuhrman, general manager of the Atlanta-based channel, said the KGOW show will air in Houston only in the slot now occupied by the Mayhem in the A.M. show from WQXI-AM in Atlanta. CSS airs on Comcast channel 129. “This is the first step in a process that hopefully can result in additional programming,” Fuhrman said. “We talked to a number of stations in the market, and we like the energy and the direction in which the station is going. They will make a tremendous partner for us.” Comcast is in the process of installing two robotic cameras in the KGOW studio to air the Granato-Zierlein show. Since radio has more commercial breaks during an hour than does television, the two will stay on the air during certain segments for CSS viewers. “John and Lance will host the show as they always have,” said David Gow, president of Gow Communications. “We just see this as an opportunity to leverage our content against two platforms. The vision is that you can watch them at home while getting dressed for work and then listen in the car on the way to work.” CSS is primarily a college sports outlet and has assorted affiliations with the ACC, SEC, Conference USA, Sun Belt and Gulf South conferences. It also airs coaches shows for several Texas schools and will air the Houston-Rice football game Oct. 16, Houston-Memphis on Oct. 30 and East Carolina-Rice on Nov. 20. Read more at
