(October 4, 2010) Jeff Zrebiec at BaltimoreSun.com reported the Orioles are shopping around their radio deal. Their contract with CBS Radio's 105.7 The Fan, WJZ-FM expires after this season.
News talker WBAL-AM 1090 and sports talker 105.7 are two stations in negotiations with the club, according to a source familiar with the talks. They are the frontrunners because of what they offer in terms of both signal strength and financial means, Zrebiec said. However, no deal is imminent. The Orioles have been partners with 105.7 since the 2007 season. Hearst's WBAL had previously served as the Orioles' flagship station for 19 years. It's now the Ravens' flagship. Sources told PressBox it's highly unlikely the Orioles will leave 105.7 next season. WBAL already has the Ravens, and neither of Baltimore’s other locally-owned sports talkers -- WNST 1570 and Fox 1370 -- have the signal coverage or the big corporate budget CBS’s 105.7 has.
