(October 4, 2010) Dan Sileo, the acid-tongued sports radio gabmaster, is being replaced as the morning drive-time host on Clear Channel's 740 AM.

"That's show business," Sileo says. "Nothing lasts forever."

Sileo, whose show had been simulcast in both Orlando and Tampa, says he will continue the Tampa gig, but that Clear Channel is looking for a more Orlando-centric show on 740 AM.

If this is indeed the case, this is good news for listeners of Orlando. When Sileo started at 740 AM in 2002, replacing Pat Clarke and Charles Davis, he was exclusively an Orlando radio host. But when Clear Channel made the cost-cutting decision to simulcast Sileo in both Orlando and Tampa, he became much more popular in the Tampa market.

Consequently, he morphed into mostly a Tampa radio show and spent most of his time talking about the Tampa Bay Bucs, Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning. Those are topics and teams that many Orlandoans care little about.

Personally, I find Sileo's departure bittersweet. He was a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. There were times I loved listening to him because he was loud and obnoxious. There were times I hated listening to him because he was loud and obnoxious.

I believe Sileo would be more popular if he cleaned up his show a bit. There are many sports fans, including myself, who cannot listen to him when the kids are in the car because his language is far too crude and crass. On the other hand, the guy is fearless and will take on anybody. He took on Bucs management over in Tampa even though the Bucs are a major sponsor of the station.
