(September 24, 2010) Orlando Alzugaray -- widely known as the "Big O" -- is leaving WQAM after 13 years at the all-sports radio station.

Alzugaray said he wasn't happy with his new time slot, which was moved from mid-mornings (10 a.m.-noon) to evenings (7-10 p.m.). Gino Torretta took over the late morning shift.

"I'm disappointed with my career path at WQAM," he said. "I felt like I have no future to grow here. I'm just weighing my options right now."

Alzugaray said he was thankful for the overwhelming support he received since the news broke on Wednesday.

"The support I've received from listeners and sponsors has been amazing," he said. "I appreciate it immensely. You've got to love that kind of support. Even listeners have offered me work."

Alzugaray said his last show will be Sunday, Oct. 3, hosting the Dolphins post-game show.

Alzugaray was born and raised in South Florida. He graduated from Hialeah High (class of '85) and from Bauder College in 1992.

He started his radio career at WLQI 1320 AM, and is the first broadcaster in South Florida to have an everyday talk show in both English and Spanish. Orlando hosted "La Ensalada Deportiva" (The Sports Salad) on WACC.
