(September 23, 2010) A new competitor has entered the media landscape in Charlotte. For years WFNZ has been the place for sports talk radio in the Queen City, but now Fox Sports 730 looks to create an alternative and the healthy competition could end up benefiting the listeners most.

Positive sports talk radio --- those two usually don't go together, but Fox Sports 730 is trying to change that.

Sports Yapp, their afternoon program from 3 – 5 p.m. hosted by Bryce Johnson has a little different vision than what you've come to expect in this format.

“Life is tough and things are happening to people, whether its athletes or just us. Why get on air for
two hours and just be miserable and negative,” said Johnson. “There are good stories going on.”

Johnson started Sports Yapp in February on two smaller radio stations in Charlotte, buying the radio time and taking a complete risk trying to sell his product to advertisers and listeners at the same time.

Now, he and his producer Chris Kroeger, have found a home at Fox Sports 730 and a team to work with, one that respects their story.

“We hear so much in this country about the land of opportunity. Well, here's a kid who wanted to do this and there was nowhere to do it.” said Sports Director Bill Rosinski. “So, he goes out and buys the time and gets the advertisers to come in and that results in them coming to Fox Sports 730, where he can focus more on their show.”

Hard work and passion are still ingredients for success and the Sports Yapp crew has proven that again.
