(September 15, 2010) 101 ESPN – St. Louis’ #1 Sports/Talk radio station – is now ranked in the upper echelon of sports/talk radio stations in America, according to the August 2010 Arbitron PPM Rating Survey results released earlier this week.

For the month of August 2010, St. Louis’ WXOS-FM/101 ESPN was rated as the #2 sports/talk radio station among comparable major market stations across the US, for their targeted daypart/demographic (Men 25-54, Monday-Friday 6:00am-7:00pm.)

Bonneville’s WXOS-FM scored an 8.2 share, outperforming long-established, heritage sports/talk radio stations in the top 10 media markets across the United States – including stations like WFAN in New York; The Score and ESPN 1000 in Chicago; KTCK/The Ticket in Dallas; WIP in Philadelphia, WEEI in Boston; and WXYT in Detroit (St. Louis is currently the #21 media market in the country.)

According to Bonneville St. Louis Vice President and Market Manager John Kijowski, “This top national ranking for WXOS-FM proves the undeniable power of sports/talk radio on the FM dial vs. the more traditional AM stations.”

101 ESPN – the “newest kid on the block” among the other national sport/talk radio stations – achieved their stellar August 2010 ratings without the benefit of having Major League Baseball PBP on their airwaves.

Kijowski adds, “The fact that 101 ESPN reached this top position on the national level in less than two years on the air is an incredible achievement for our station. St. Louis’ great sports fans have rallied around the station, and made it one of the fast rising success stories in the history of sports radio.”

WXOS Program Director Jason Barrett notes, “I could not be more proud of our team and what they’ve accomplished in less than two years in the format. From the board operators to our producers and reporters to our talk show hosts, our people are committed to excellence and to delivering compelling content for St. Louis sports fans. It nice to see our city receive the attention it deserves as one of the greatest sports cities in America.

Barrett adds, “To be in the same conversation with some of these prestigious radio stations which have helped shape our format in such a short period of time is truly humbling. I am thrilled to see our product receive the support it has from our local audience. 101 ESPN is fully committed to becoming one of the great sports brands in the country for many years to come.

Commenting on 101 ESPN’s ratings success, Joel Oxley, Senior Regional Vice President for Bonneville International Corporation notes, “WXOS has had meteoric rise in not only the St. Louis market, but in the national sports/talk radio arena. While this is a reflection of St. Louis’ strong fan base in a great sports town, much of the credit for the station’s success goes to John Kijowski, Jason Barrett and their entire staff at 101 ESPN. Bonneville couldn’t be more pleased with their results thus far, and we see nothing but great things on the horizon for WXOS in the future.”
