(September 1, 2010) ESPN 1480 will launch a new local sports talk show Friday, with longtime broadcaster Dick Janda as its host.

"On the Bench" will debut at 4 p.m. on KLMS 1480 AM, the city's ESPN affiliate.

The one-hour show will air at 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and for two hours on Friday, beginning at 4. It will include interviews, guests and calls from listeners about local and national sports topics.

ESPN 1480 has been without a local show since dumping "The Spread" last fall, which featured former Nebraska football player Jason Peter and sports radio personality Jeff Wilkerson.

Janda has been on Lincoln's media scene since 1974. His resume includes stints at KOLN/KGIN-TV, KLKN-TV and KFOR. He most recently worked as an assignment editor at KOLN, where he served as sports director during the 1980s.
