Game Day in Peach State premieresPress Release
(September 1, 2010) All levels of college football in Georgia will receive coverage in the Atlanta market this year. As “Gameday in the Peach State” premieres Saturday September 4th at 2:00 pm on Newstalk 1160 AM WCFO, the flagship station for Georgia State University football.
“Gameday in the Peach State” will cover the state’s collegiate football programs from junior college up to the FBS level. The hour long weekend program will be hosted by STAA client Dustin Swedelson and Chris Nash, who will also host half time programming during GSU football broadcasts. “People know about Georgia and Georgia Tech when you talk about football in this state,” Swedelson said. “But how many people know that the GMC Bulldogs place major college talent all around the country? Or the history of Paulson Stadium and what Erk Russell accomplished in Statesboro? How about that Albany State is a consistent playoff team in Division II? And that Valdosta State has won two of the last six Division II national championships?” Swedelson added. The show breaks down the biggest games teams in Georgia have on any given week and will have more than just general sports talk opinion segments. Nash, a former backup quarterback at Georgia from 1999-2000 is looking forward to honing in on the x’s and o’s of the matchups. “We will break down the matchups each week and determine which team we think will come away with the victory based on their schemes,” Nash said. “Anyone can give you their opinion as to who is going to win but we will determine it by looking at the strengths and weaknesses of each team and how they match up,” added the former Jim Donnan recruit. Guests of the show will include coaches, players and media from each team’s coverage area. “I covered Valdosta State and the Gulf South Conference for almost five years. While they don’t always get the deserved exposure, the non-glamour levels of college football develop the same intriguing storylines as the big boys,” said Swedelson. “Play by play announcers, newspaper beat writers and television reporters in some of these smaller markets do an incredible job covering these teams. I look forward to interviewing them as our eyes and ears into shedding light on these remarkable programs both positive and negatively,” added Swedelson. “We spend so much time on UGA and Georgia Tech and rightfully so but it will be nice to cover some of the other schools in the state and watch them succeed as well,” stated Nash. “The Georgia high schools are loaded with talent and they don't all go to the two big schools. A lot of these guys are playing at other schools around the state and it's going to be fun to cover them as well,” Nash continued. The times of “Gameday in the Peachstate” will vary throughout the football season because of Newstalk 1160’s commitment as Georgia State football’s flagship station as well as Atlanta’s home for Notre Dame football. The show will air every Saturday either leading up to or following one of the live football broadcasts. It can also be heard online at http://www.newstalk1160.com/. _______________________
