(August 31, 2010) The Alaska Aces have hired Josh Bogorad (BO-go-rod) as the team’s new Play-by-Play Broadcaster and Director of Media Relations. Bogorad comes to Alaska after having served the same post with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the Central Hockey League (CHL) since 2003. The job became vacant last week when former Aces broadcaster Jack Michaels accepted a job as the play-by-play announcer with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers. Bogorad’s first broadcast with the Aces will come on Tuesday, October 5th when the Aces play host to the Stockton Thunder in the preseason opener. Season tickets and individual game tickets are on sale now. For more information, please call the Aces office at 907.258.2237 or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.

Bogorad, 30, is regarded as one of the top play-by-play broadcasters in minor league hockey. He has called more than 450 professional regular season and playoff games, and has been voted the CHL’s Best Broadcaster in each of the last three seasons. He was selected to call the CHL All-Star Game in 2005, 2007, and 2010, and he won the CHL’s Communications Executive of the Year Award in 2007. A native of Los Angeles, California, Bogorad began his broadcasting career with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, as the team’s Radio Correspondent on 97.1FM KLSX. He later attended the University of Arizona, where he served as the broadcaster for the school’s hockey team in 2001. That season Bogorad was also selected to broadcast the ACHA National Championship tournament.

In addition to broadcasting games, Bogorad also oversaw the IceRays media coverage, marketing, advertising, and acted as a team sales executive. The Aces received an immediate response and numerous applicants for the open position, but Bogorad emerged from the pack. Aces managing member Terry Parks said that Bogorad’s passion, versatility, and entertaining broadcasts separated him from the other candidates.

Bogorad said that he was thrilled to be joining an organization like the Aces.

“I am extremely excited to come to Alaska and join a team with such a strong track record of success and positive results,” said Bogorad. “The professionalism of the organization, and the support they receive from the community are second to none. There are so many things about the Aces that made this opportunity so attractive.”

Bogorad also said that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor. “I know what a big role Jack Michaels played with this team, and what big shoes I have to fill,” he added. “For me, a relationship with the fans and the public is as important as anything else I do. Whether it’s on the air, or in the community, it is my priority to build and maintain the same type of rapport with the city of Anchorage. I’m looking forward to the start of the season, and I can’t wait to bring all of the action to the Aces fans.”

In addition to his work as a hockey play-by-play broadcaster, Bogorad has also called football, baseball, and hosted his own talk radio show on Corpus Christi’s ESPN Radio affiliate.
