(August 20, 2010) Local sports radio junkies now have a second option.

The airwaves of 730-AM have carried Fox Sports programming since Monday, offering an alternative to the sports talk on 610-AM WFNZ.

Dan Patrick and Jim Rome are among the national personalities dished up by Fox Sports, and locally-produced shows are on the way.

Starting Sept. 20, a local show will air weekdays from 8 to 10 a.m. Former Carolina Panthers play-by-play radio announcer Bill Rosinski will co-host the show Mondays and Wednesdays.

Another local show, Sports Yapp, will air weekdays from 3 to 5 p.m. starting around Sept. 7. The show will be hosted by Bryce Johnson.

Fox Sports 730-AM will carry all Appalachian State football and men’s basketball games. Listeners can also tune in to an NFL game of the week during the Sunday afternoon time slot when the Carolina Panthers aren’t playing.

Other personalities featured on the Fox Sports national lineup include Stephen A. Smith and Pat O’Brien.

“People like to have options to choose from in what they listen to and, up to now, they didn’t have an option in Charlotte,” said Lanny Ford, general manager of the station’s parent company, Lincolnton-based Hometown Radio Network Broadcasting.

HRNB moved the 730-AM transmitter from Shelby to Belmont in March. At 10,000 watts during the day, the station covers a 50-mile radius, Ford said. The signal even permeates Gastonia clearly at night, when AM stations are required to reduce their power, Ford said.
