After initially believing there would be no radio feed for the team this season, the Maineiacs and Gleason Media Services reached an agreement this week which will broadcast the team's 68 regular-season games plus any playoff action across the region on the radio.

The games, along with pre- and post-game shows, will air on WEZR/AM 1240 (Auburn), WTME/AM 780 (Rumford), and WKTQ/AM 1450 (Paris). The games will also be available online at www.lewistonhockey.com and at www.wezr1240.com, and the feed will also continue to be available through the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Telus live video Webcasts.

"The Maineiacs are an important economic driver to the area and we all must do everything we can to unite behind them," station owner (and Auburn Mayor) Dick Gleason said in a news release Tuesday.

At his first news conference upon arriving in Lewiston, Maineiacs' managing consultant Bill Schurman was doubtful a radio deal would happen this season, which caused some grumbling among the gathered crowd at the Oxford Networks building.

Schurman on Tuesday had much better news for radio listeners.

"The Gleason family of radio stations has been providing quality local news, information, and entertainment for decades," Schurman said in the release."We are proud that Gleason Media has teamed up with the Maineiacs to help share our excitement of the season ahead with our fans."

The Maineiacs and Gleason Media were partners once before. For the past four seasons, Lewiston's games have been available on WLAM/AM 1470 and WLVP/AM 870, The Oldies Channel, owned by Nassau Broadcasting Partners.

This announcement also means the return to the local airwaves for play-by-play man and STAA client Alex Reed (pictured). A graduate of Marshall University in West Virginia, Reed will begin his fourth season behind the microphone for the Maineiacs, and he'll be joined in the booth again this season by D.J. Abisalih, who will again provide color commentary as well as work with the team's media relations department.

"I'm thrilled that we have a radio deal, and that I'm a part of it, and I'm excited to begin a new era in Lewiston Maineiacs hockey," Reed said.
