KRWZ new Nuggets flagshipCourtesy

(August 13, 2010) A change is in the works for Nuggets and Avalanche radio broadcasts.
The plan most likely to be implemented is that the Nuggets and Avalanche's flagship radio play-by-play outlet for the 2010-11 season will be KRWZ (950 AM), part of the Lincoln Financial group of stations that also includes KKFN (104.3 FM) and KEPN (ESPN Radio, 1600 AM). That 950 spot on the dial is recognizable as the former home of KKFN before the sports-talk operation switched to the FM side. KRWZ is an oldies station now. When there are overlaps/conflicts between Nuggets and Avalanche games, one broadcast would be aired on KRWZ and the other on Mile High Sports' KCKK (1510 AM), the flagship station the last two seasons — originally under a one-year deal, then last season under the first year of a follow-up two-year agreement. Among other things, with possible rare exceptions, the cooperative adjustment this season would allow KCKK and KKFN to stick with their full schedule of talk shows rather than head out to game coverage.
