Padres to stream games for area fans
(August 10, 2010) The Padres announced on Monday that the organization plans to make five games available free of charge on padres.com for fans that live in the club's home broadcast territory.
The live video stream will first feature a pair of contests on Aug. 18 and 19 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. All five games included are ones that are not scheduled to be televised by the Padres' broadcast rights holder, Cox Communications, so the stream will feature video and play-by-play of the opposing team's broadcast. "The Padres are working hard to increase access to our games for our fans, and these online broadcasts will allow fans in the San Diego market to see games that were not previously scheduled to be shown here," said Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel. "We would like to thank MLB Advanced Media for helping us make this idea a reality." Fans can gain access to the stream by logging onto padres.com and completing a registration form to validate their location. Individual games are subject to change. The other games that will be streamed live on padres.com will be on Aug. 26 and Sept. 1 against Arizona, with the first contest taking place at PETCO Park and the second in Phoenix, and on Sept. 15 at Colorado.
