Will Big East start TV channel?Courtesy
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
(August 6, 2010) The Big East Conference, which includes Marquette as a member, is studying the possibility of creating its own TV network.
John Marinatto, the Big East commissioner, appears to be using the Big Ten Network as his template. Speaking at the conference's media day, Marinatto said a decision would not be made for at least three years while current deals play themselves out. But he sure sounded like a commissioner ready to take the big step. "And when we look at ourselves -- and I am talking about our footprint as a conference -- we represent more than 25% of the population of the United States and seven of our schools are in the top 13 markets. So from an asset standpoint, we have much more potential than anybody because we represent more of the population than anyone else," Marinatto said. Well, Marquette fans, would you favor such a move?
