(July 26, 2010) The NAU football and basketball programs will have a new radio home for the upcoming season.

The Lumberjack Radio Network is shifting from KAFF AM 930 to 105.1 FM The Big Talker. The move will give NAU fans in Flagstaff a clearer signal to hear the games and will allow fans in Prescott, Camp Verde, Williams, Winslow and Sedona to listen to the Lumberjacks.

"I couldn't be more excited about it," said Mitch Strohman, the voice of the Lumberjacks. "This is the first time in several years we're on an FM station. It gives the fans a place to hear the games, day or night, wherever they may be, whether it's their homes, cars or in the Skydome.

"They'll hear NAU now on a clear, crisp signal."

The Lumberjack Radio Network was on KAFF for the past three seasons. The signal didn't consistently reach past Flagstaff, something that won't be an issue on 105.1.

All football and men's basketball regular season games will be broadcast on The Big Talker along with selected women's basketball games.

"We're excited to be bringing NAU Athletics to 105.1," said Stan Pierce, the station's general manager. "This partnership is huge for us and NAU as well. We're looking forward to some great games on the air and being part of the growing excitement of NAU Athletics in Flagstaff and across northern Arizona."

The station won't waste much time getting down to business.

The first scheduled broadcast is set for Aug. 13, when the Jacks' men's basketball team travels to Canada for a series of exhibition games. Strohman will be on hand to do play-by-play for that day's game against the University of Calgary.

"I think it's incredibly cool that we'll have a men's game on the air in August," Strohman said. "It's a great opportunity for fans to get a sneak peek at the Lumberjacks against a quality opponent.

"It's also a way for everyone to get geared up for NAU football through the basketball team."

The team of Strohman and former NAU quarterback Kevin Stephens will handle the broadcasting duties for football for a third straight season and fifth overall. Their debut will come Sept. 2, when the Jacks host Western New Mexico at the Walkup Skydome in their season opener.

"It's great to have Kevin back in the booth," Strohman said. "He has great credibility with the listeners and he knows the program and the Big Sky Conference so well. He has such a passion for college football. We work very well together and have become comfortable with each other."

Strohman will team up with former NAU women's coach Dave Brown for the basketball broadcasts, also for the third straight season.
