(July 8, 2010) Joe Starkey, who will begin his 36th season as Cal football's play-by-play broadcaster this fall, will receive the Chris Schenkel Award from the National Football Foundation.
He will be honored at an awards dinner on Dec. 7 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, an event that also includes the induction of the 2010 College Football Hall of Fame class. Named in honor of its first recipient, the award recognizes a broadcaster who has enjoyed a notable career broadcasting college football at a single institution.
