(July 7, 2010) Alan York, formerly of ISP College Sports, will replace Jerry Edwards as Liberty’s radio play-by-play voice, the university announced in a release Tuesday evening.

Edwards was Liberty’s radio voice for the last 29 years before retiring from broadcasting last spring. Edwards had broadcast more than 300 football and 800 men’s basketball games during his Liberty tenure.

York has been an assistant production manager for the last 12 years for ISP, America’s home for college sports on the radio. While at ISP, York was based out of Winston-Salem, N.C., and was the lead broadcaster for the ACC national game of the week in football.

He also gained experience broadcasting various Wake Forest men’s and women’s basketball and baseball games.

“It’s an exciting time right now to be a Liberty Flame,” York said. “The energy felt throughout this university is contagious and I am fortunate to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

From 2000-06, York was the director of broadcasting and media relations for the Winston-Salem Warthogs, a minor league baseball team, which have since been renamed the Dash.

From June 2001-06, York was the radio play-by-play broadcaster for High Point’s men’s and women’s basketball programs.

In 2006, York was a broadcast assistant for XM Radio’s coverage of the World Baseball Classic, and later that year, he was the director of media relations and broadcasting for the Arizona Fall League.

“We were very fortunate to find someone like Alan to follow Jerry Edwards as the next ‘Voice of the Flames,’” Liberty athletics director Jeff Barber said. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and is the right person to build upon the foundation that Jerry built for our radio network.”

Edwards is now concentrating on his duties as the general manager of Victory FM, Liberty’s in-house radio network which has greatly expanded its geographic footprint in the last year.
