Former Nantz winner Adam Cavalier honoredPress Release
(July 7, 2010) WMUL-FM's station manager and the play-by-play voice of Marshall Women's Basketball was named the Best Reporter for the state of West Virginia to go along with eight other awards during the West Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s 2009 broadcast journalism awards ceremony conducted June 19 in Charleston.
In addition to Reporter of the Year, STAA client Adam Cavalier picked up two other grand prizes to go along with six honorable mentions in categories ranging from news to sports to public affairs. Cavalier was STAA's 2009 Jim Nantz Award winner as the top collegiate sports broadcaster in the country. "The thing I really like about this haul is that I'm not focused in one area," Cavalier said. "People like my news stuff, people like my sports stuff. It's nice to have that level of balance on a tape. Plus the judge's comments for my news work help improve my sports work and vice versa." Cavalier's three first-place individual award-winning entries were: Best Documentary “The Longest Yards: The 2008 Marshall Football Season in Review,” broadcast during the WMUL-FM Pregame Show before the Marshall-Southern Illinois football game Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009.
