John Riggins returns to MASNCourtesy
Washington Examiner
(July 1, 2010) On Thursday “The John Riggins Show” returns to MASN and the wildly popular and outspoken personality is very excited to be back on the air. His show previously aired on the regional network from 2006 to July of 2008 before it left the air when Triple X Red Zebra Broadcasting moved studio’s and took over ESPN 980AM.There is a new afternoon local lineup on MASN with “The Scott Garceau Show” starting an hour earlier weekdays at 2 p.m. and will be followed up at 4 p.m. when Riggo will have the late afternoon-early evening slot. The show will be simulcast from the WTOP 103.5 FM HD-3 studios in Washington. It is from those famous studios that I spoke to Riggo about his new show. Riggins on his recent return to radio and MASN » ”I'm very happy to be back on MASN. They provide our show an audience that not only reaches the mid-Atlantic region but also a national audience. As for radio it is my favorite medium because I really feel I can be myself and connect with my audience." Riggins on his show » "This time it is my show. I own it with my friend, executive producer Tod Castleberry, so we control 100 percent of the content. I live here now full time — before I commuted between DC and New York. This is an exciting time to be doing radio in Washington: Stephen Stasburg is leading the Nationals, the John Wall era has begun with the Wizards, the Caps are now a premier team in the NHL and, of course, we will have lots to say about the Redskins. But being in Washington, we welcome supporters of all teams — not just the locals. Our job is to inform and entertain everyone. I am happy that thus far 1/3 of our listeners are women because we keep things fun and hit on pop culture as well sports." Riggins on his crew » "Tod [Castleberry] is our traffic cop and does a great job. I talked him into being on air and it has paid off well for the show. We have Lou Holder, who many know from FOX 5. He is smart, knows his sports and is a great teammate. Then there is veteran producer Kevin Standfield who always has something interesting to say. I really think that people will see that we have a show that is built to inform and entertain listeners — no matter what your favorite team or sport may be." Read more at
