Now he'll tackle radio broadcasts of Bakersfield College football.

Palm will be BC's play-by-play announcer for the upcoming season, BC athletic director Jan Stuebbe announced.

"I'm real excited about Vance and his crew," Stuebbe said. "I love his enthusiasm and energy."

Palm replaces John Pavletich, who resigned in May after calling BC football for 18 seasons. John's father, George, called BC games from 1968-91 before illness forced his retirement.

Palm, an Arvin High graduate, played baseball and basketball at BC and then played basketball at CSUB. He spent 15 years as a cruise director on cruise ships before leaving that career in December 2004.

"I couldn't be more honored to be part of this," Palm said. "I'll be filling big shoes from the Pavletiches and (color commentator) Mark Richardson. They're such good guys. I'm honored to be following them."

Palm said he plans on having former Renegade players serve as color commentators, a different ex-player each game. Also part of the crew will be Mike Hopper and former BC football player Paul Damron.

All games in the 2010 season will be broadcast live on KERN radio, AM 1180.
