(June 28, 2010) Lorn Brown, a part time New Mexico State University radio broadcaster and public address announcer passed away on Thursday at the age of 71.

Brown was a member of the NMSU athletics family for the past several years, working as the radio broadcaster for Aggie women's basketball games and PA announcer for Aggie softball games. One of Brown's famous lines at NMSU softball games was "Adios Amigo' with every home run the Aggies hit.

"Lorn was a great person," NMSU Sports Information Director Tyler Dunkel said. "Every time I saw him he would greet me with a smile and a handshake.

"He always had great stories to tell about his career. We'll miss him a lot, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Brown was a sports broadcaster who worked for baseball's AAA Iowa Oaks (1973-74), the Chicago White Sox (1976-79, 1983-88), the Milwaukee Brewers (1980-81) and the New York Mets (1982).

Brown's career included working alongside such baseball broadcasters as Harry Caray, Bob Uecker and Bob Murphy, each a recipient of the prestigious Ford C. Frick Award, the highest honor in the field. He would go on to be replaced in the Mets booth by Tim McCarver, one of the most famous baseball broadcasters of his generation.

"A true professional," Aggie radio announcer Jack Nixon said. "He just loved his craft. It didn't matter if Lorn was doing a baseball game in New York or a college basketball in Peoria. It was truly his love."

Brown's basketball work included Bradley University, Drake University, the Big Ten, the Atlantic Coast Conference, Missouri Valley Conference, Notre Dame and the Metro Conference TV networks as well as TV announcer for the Chicago Bulls 1974-1978. Brown is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

"He was a great person with a big heart," NMSU women's basketball coach Darin Spence said. "He was really supportive of what I did and what the team was doing. He traveled with us a lot so we got to know him well.

"It's a sad day for us all."

Services for Brown will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home.
