(June 25, 2010) With ownership at KSLG in limbo, the big question is what will happen to Kevin Slaten — the most controversial figure on local sports radio and the only long-established host left there.

Grand Slam Sports signed a letter of intent last week to purchase KSLG (1380 AM) following a grace period and continues to evaluate the viability of the deal. Grand Slam president Dave Greene said his company is 'still doing due diligence'' and expects a decision within a week.

If it goes through, his company would be in line to run both local AM sports stations. Grand Slam is operating KFNS (590) and Greene says it remains close to completing a deal to buy the station. But now with the acquisition of KSLG also a possibility, the status of programming there is uncertain. Greene said he would not discuss a lineup until his group had finalized a deal to run 1380 while the sale process would progress.

Slaten wouldn't be a logical fit at the FM sports station (WXOS, 101.1) because of its conservative nature, and KFNS just put a new lineup in place two weeks ago. But Grand Slam is expected to retain the sports format if it gets 1380 and Slaten wants to stay put.

"I'm very happy where I am,'' Slaten said. "I love the way things are. Advertisers are continuing, it's a very successful show.''

Interestingly, Slaten has a wrongful termination lawsuit pending against the company from which Grand Slam is trying to buy KFNS. A court date is set for September.
