Bucs' Bryan Benway to deliver grad speech

(June 23, 2010) 2001 AuSable Valley graduate and STAA client Bryan Benway is returning to the North Country to give the commencement speech to the class of 2010 at his alma mater on June 26th.

The 27-year-old Benway, a Jay, NY native, is the son of Chris and Kim Benway.

Benway currently serves as the Laredo Bucks (Central Hockey League) Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting in Laredo, Texas.

Benway recently completed his third season as "voice of the Bucks" during the 2009-10 season. In January of 2010 Benway was selected as the television play-by-play broadcaster for the CHL All-Star game on the America One Network which reached nearly 10 million homes nationwide, including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Benway, a Jay, NY native, was a finalist for the 2008-09 CHL Communications Executive of the Year.

Benway broadcasts all 64 Bucks regular and postseason games on radio (Imagen 94.1-FM) and internet, including CHL-TV. In addition, Benway is the main liaison to the media, by issuing press releases, updating website content, coordinating player and coach interviews, and assisting in sales. Benway also hosts the popular weekly television show “Bucks Insider” on FOX 39 in Laredo, as well as appears frequently as a guest sports anchor on the local NBC affiliate KGNS-TV.

During the summer of 2007 Benway served as Assistant General Manager and Broadcaster for the Little Falls Miners Baseball team, of the NYCBL.

Prior to that, from August 2005 to March 2007, Benway was the lead announcer for the Harlem Ambassadors show basketball team, announcing nearly 200 games in 34 states, seven Canadian Provinces, and Japan.

From July 2004 to August 2005 Benway was a play-by-play announcer for North Country Cable Network in Plattsburgh, NY, where he also announced high school and Junior A hockey.

Benway is a 2005 graduate of Plattsburgh State University (NY) with a B.A in mass communications; he has won four best male talent awards for his broadcasts.

Benway is a 2001 graduate of AuSable Valley Central School where he lettered in football, basketball and track and field. He currently resides year-round in Laredo, Texas."
