(June 21, 2010) For his outstanding broadcast coverage of Dixie State College athletics, John Potter has been named the first winner of the Pacific West Conference Media Award.
The PacWest announced the honor on Saturday following voting by the conference's sports information directors. "I am extremely excited to be honored by the conference," Potter said. "I have been privileged to call a lot of great games over the past two years in the PacWest. This young conference has great student-athletes and I cannot wait to see what lays on the horizon." The honor recognizes a member of the media, including but not limited to, reporters, writers, and broadcasters who provide outstanding coverage of the PacWest. Each conference sports information office was permitted to nominate members of the media for the award. Potter is in his second year as the official voice of Red Storm Athletics and also serves as the assistant sports information director at Dixie State. A native of Southern California, Potter honed his broadcasting skills at Cerritos College's student run station, WMPD. He served as sports director and the main play-by-play voice for the Falcons from 2001-04. _______________________
