(June 8, 2010) Spero Dedes, radio voice of the Los Angeles Lakers, has become an NFL TV play-by-play announcer.
CBS Sports will announce this summer that Dedes is replacing departed Hall of Fame voice Dick Enberg on its NFL coverage, TV Insiders tell BenMaller.com in this EXCLUSIVE report. Dedes, long a golden boy of TV executives, hosted "NFL GameDay Morning" pregame coverage for NFL Network with Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp and others during the 2009 football season. Dedes joined the CBS Sports roster last December on the network's coverage of NCAA Men's Basketball. This will be a dramatic blow to the Lakers radio coverage. LA plays just about every Sunday during the NBA season, meaning the team's lead announcer will be away doing the sixth or seventh NFL game for CBS instead of calling Kobe Bryant's games. Enberg had been with CBS Sports since 2000, covering the NFL, college basketball and US Open tennis. He left most of his network assignments behind to become the TV voice of the San Diego Padres for 110+ games a season, in a multi-year deal. _______________________
