NCAA Tourney radio up for grabsCourtesy
New York Daily News
(June 1, 2010) For all the years CBS had exclusive rights to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, it also had radio rights.
Now, that's not the case. The new CBS/Turner NCAA hoops deal did not include a radio component. The package is currently on the market. Radio moles say ESPN is the favorite to purchase the rights. Westwood One - the incumbent - and a few other independent radio syndicators are also interested in the package. Last Sunday, there was mystery in the Yankees Citi Field dugout. On ESPN, in the fourth inning, Jon Miller promoed a live interview with Joe Girardi. But when it came time for the chat, Miller said Girardi had "other things" to do. "We apologize for that and hope everything is all right down there," Miller said. What happened? "No, Joe isn't boycotting ESPN or anything like that," a well-embedded Bombers mole said. "He just forgot. He went down in the tunnel." When pressed further, the stoolie said Mother Nature was indeed involved. Girardi was taking a much needed pause for the cause. _______________________
