(May 28, 2010) For the ninth consecutive season, Big Play Radio Sports will broadcast Butler University football. All 11 Butler regular season games in 2010 will be carried on WXLW AM (XL950), in Indianapolis and will be streamed live at www.bigplayradiosports.com.

Brian Giffin, Senior Producer/Engineer for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network will return to call play by play, while Butler Hall of Famer Ken Larose will return as the analyst. The two combined on Butler broadcasts during the 2009 season, which saw the Bulldogs post an 11-1 record, a co-championship in the Pioneer Football League and a victory over Central Connecticut State in the Gridiron Classic.

“The run to the PFL and Gridiron Classic titles in 2009 was a culmination of a lot of hard work by the athletic department, coaches, and players.” Giffin said “ we were thrilled to bring it to the rapidly growing base of Bulldogs fans. 2010 promises to be another exciting year at Butler with a very solid core of returning players and recruits. Kenny and I are looking forward to getting back in the booth.”

“The Bulldogs are excited to be back on XL950 this season with all eleven of our games being broadcast live,” added Butler head coach Jeff Voris, “Brian Giffin, the voice of Butler Football, and Ken LaRose do an outstanding job calling our games. We look forward to another championship effort from our players and with the passion Giff and Kenny bring to the broadcasts it should be another exciting year for Bulldogs Football, both on the field and on the air”

“XL 950 is delighted to once again be the broadcast partner of Butler University football,” said Pilgrim Communications Vice President & General Manager Randy Tipmore. “With the Bulldogs coming off of an 11-win season, we are excited to carry the entire schedule live in 2010. We value our relationships with the Butler University athletic department, Head Coach Jeff Voris and broadcaster Brian Giffin. The brand of Butler Athletics is coming off an historic year, and we are very proud to be a part of what is next for the Dawgs.”

Though Giffin’s role with the Braves Radio Network will cause conflicts early in the season, fans will be treated to an outstanding broadcast. “We have tremendous options for fill-in on the first couple games,” Giffin stated. “From all the years I’ve been in the market, I have a number of highly qualified folks to cover my role for a couple games. When I was hired by the Braves Radio Network, we addressed those dates right away.”

Butler will unveil a new football press box and broadcast booths in 2010, as well as new stadium seating in the Butler Bowl. Based on the 2009 football success, and the men’s basketball program’s run to the 2010 Final Four, the image and stature of Butler athletics has reached an all-time high.

Butler will open the 2010 season with a road non-league tilt at Albion, Mich., on Saturday, Sept. 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. (EDT), with pre-game coverage beginning at 12:40 p.m.

STAA Note: Fill-ins have already been arranged for early in the season when Brian Griffin has Braves conflicts.
