Jim Gray joins Kings broadcast teamCourtesy
Sacramento Bee
(May 17, 2010) The Kings are trying to upgrade more than their roster. They also have added a boost to their broadcasting team.
The franchise announced today that 11-time Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Jim Gray has been added as a special correspondent. His first assignment will be Tuesday's Draft Lottery Party in midtown Sacramento. That's where the Kings will find out their draft position. Gray also will serve as a Kings sideline reporter for 20 games next season, in addition to covering special Kings events and taping segments for the Kings' web site. "We are ecstatic to add someone with the depth of experience and global reach that Jim will bring," Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof said in a release. "Jim's reporting will help build the Kings brand worldwide." The Kings also confirmed that Kayte Christensen's contract will not be renewed for next season. She worked as a sideline reporter for the Kings during the 2009-2010 season. Previously, she hosted a post-game show with former Kings announcer Jim Kozimor. Gray often works individual events for team telecasts such as these. For instance, in recent years he has served as a sideline reporter for broadcasts of Raiders exhibition games. He has covered eight Olympic Games, 24 Super Bowls, nine World Series, 18 NBA Finals, 14 Final Fours, 20 Masters golf championships and more than 400 championship boxing matches. "The Sacramento Kings are a team on the rise," Gray said in a statement, "and I'm thrilled with the opportunity to contribute to their broadcast team." _______________________
