(May 4, 2010) The New Jersey Devils enjoyed a large spike in viewers this season on MSG Networks, especially among male viewers between the ages of 25 and 54, according to just released data.

Ratings, among this most important demographic for advertisers, jumped 78% over the 2008-09 season. Among all viewers, ratings increased by 45% over last season. This was the highest household rating for the Devils in over a decade.

In addition, the Devils March 12th game against the Pittsburgh Penguins delivered a 1.06 rating, the highest household viewership ever for a non-New York-metro matchup (any Devils game against an opponent that is not the New York Rangers or the New York Islanders).

The Devils playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers garnered even more viewers, with a 129% increase from all households over this year’s impressive regular season’s ratings. Among men between 25 and 54, ratings were up 170% from the regular season.

The Devils now rank seventh in the NHL for average number of American households.

“Our partnership with MSG is important to us,” said Jeff Vanderbeek, Chairman and Managing Partner of the New Jersey Devils. “The Devils fan base continues to grow. Our fans know we are Jersey's Team and they love the play-by-play of Doc Emrick and Chico Resch.”

For MSG Plus, Steve Cangialosi, Mike “Doc” Emrick and Glenn “Chico” Resch were all nominated for New York Emmy Awards for their broadcasting work with the New Jersey Devils. Emrick recently won his 6th New York Emmy Award for On-Camera Talent: Sports Play by Play.
