Villalba to call Rangers Spanish TV games
(April 27, 2010) The Rangers will have 43 games broadcast in Spanish on local Time Warner Cable systems. The games will be available on Time Warner in Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, Wichita Falls and the Golden Triangle of Beaumont-Port Arthur-Orange.
The games will be broadcast on channel 889 (99 in Corpus Christi). Victor Villalba, who does Spanish play-by-play for the Cowboys and the Mavericks, will do so for the Rangers and former pitcher Jose Guzman will be the color analyst. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is the sixth largest Hispanic television market in the United States behind New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Miami. The broadcasts have the potential of reaching over one million customers. "To me, from a personal standpoint, this is a wonderful opportunity," Villalba said. "I'm very excited to be able to participate in Texas Rangers games. This is just a great way for people to watch the great game of baseball in a passionate language. It fits very well with the baseball experience. I'm thrilled by this particular opportunity." The first game will be tonight against the White Sox. _______________________
