Yankees lead in baseball PPM report
(April 20, 2010) Arbitron looks at in-game play-by-play listening in its "Sports Report: PPM Radio Listening for Pro Baseball" for the 2009 season, and the New York Yankees on CBS Radio's WCBS-AM come out on top, with an average game cume of 412,500. Next are the Chicago Cubs, heard on Tribune's News/Talk WGN-AM, with an average game cume of 277,100, followed by the Mets on CBS Radio's WFAN-AM/New York, averaging 277,000 per game."Through the years there's been no better way to follow a team than daily and nightly broadcasts of games on the radio," Arbitron Sports Manager Chris Meinhardt said. "America's relationship with baseball is as healthy as ever. Arbitron's inaugural 'PPM Radio Listening for Pro Baseball' shows that relationship and loyalty by reporting the 2009 performance of 25 teams in 23 commercialized PPM markets." He continued, "Those teams with play-by-play broadcasts have believed for years radio was an integral part of a fan's experience. Now, thanks to the level of audience detail provided by the PPM ratings service, we can see that passion and loyalty quantified." The top 10 teams averaged more than 115,000 listeners per game in their home markets, Arbitron found.
