(April 4, 2010) Mike Manns, of KMAJ AM-FM, has been selected as the Sportscaster of the Year for 2010, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters announced Thursday.
Manns will receive the Hod Humiston Award at the annual KAB Sports Seminar on April 27 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Manns began broadcasting high school sports in the Topeka area in 1982 with Friday night football games. The schedule increased to include football, basketball, baseball and soccer in 1984. Since that time, Manns has broadcast well over five thousand games, including numerous state championship contests. In addition, he has served as the Voice of the Kansas women's basketball team and has broadcast many televised Washburn University basketball games. He is also a two-time Oscar Stauffer Award Winner, presented by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The KAB award is named for Hod Humiston, of Hutchinson, who is now deceased. Humiston was the first television sportscaster in Kansas for KTVH (now KWCH TV) in Wichita. The KAB established the award in Humiston's honor in 1979, to recognize people who have made significant contributions to sports broadcasting. _______________________
