Indians baseball returning to XL 950Press Release
(March 29, 2010) The Indianapolis Indians and WXLW-950 AM have announced that they will continue their radio partnership for the 2010 season as all Tribe regular season and postseason games will again be broadcast live on the local station.
Raven Broadcasting operates XL 950 AM Sports Talk and Freedom 95.9 FM Talk Radio. In addition to carrying the Indianapolis Indians, XL 950 is the home of The Zone, The Mancow Show and 2 Live Stews as well as various sports broadcasts for the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University, Purdue University, Butler University and Ball State University. Returning to the Indianapolis broadcasts in 2010 are Howard Kellman, who enters his 35th season as "Voice of the Tribe" and is expected to call his 5,000th game this season, and STAA client Scott McCauley, who is in his fifth season as a radio broadcaster and third year as a ticket sales executive for the Indians. Kellman joined the Indians in 1974 and has been the club's lead play-by-play announcer each year during that time frame except for the 1975 and 1980 seasons. He also served as the lead announcer for ESPN's coverage of the Triple-A World Series from 2006-2008. Kellman was honored as Indiana's Sportscaster of the Year in 2002 and inducted into to the Indiana Sports Writers & Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 2009. He has called IHSAA football and basketball games on WHMB-TV 40 since 1990-91 and served as the lead announcer on Indians telecasts since 2000. McCauley, who is the current play-by-play voice of the IUPUI men's basketball radio/TV broadcasts, joined the Tribe in 2006 after spending three years at XL 950 (formerly ESPN 950). During his time at the radio station, McCauley hosted "The Meltdown" on Sunday mornings and "Indy College Gameday/Tip-Off" every Saturday. He also covered NBA, NFL, college and high school events. Originally from Akron, Ohio, McCauley has spent parts of seven seasons as a Minor League Baseball broadcaster. His previous stops include the South Bend Silver Hawks (2000-01), Akron Aeros (2002) and Dayton Dragons (2004-05). McCauley also writes the official Indians blog, "Is This Thing On?" at http://indyindians.mlblogs.com. With this Tribe blog, fans can travel with the team for road games, find out what happens behind the scenes at Victory Field, and keep up to date on Tribe news. _______________________
