(March 29, 2010) Former Baltimore Oriole Chris Hoiles will co-host a new afternoon drive sports talk radio show on WVIE Fox Sports 1370-AM.

Hoiles, an Orioles catcher from 1989 to 1998, will anchor the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays with Adam Gladstone. Gladstone is the former director of minor league operations for Ripken Baseball and former director of baseball operations for the York Revolution.

The show will focus on Orioles news and other baseball-related items.

Hoiles and Gladstone will replace nationally radio sports personality Jim Rome and signals 1370’s efforts to build more of a local presence with its programming.

Bob Pettit, 1370’s general manager, said the station is close to announcing a deal with longtime local sports personality Stan “The Fan” Charles for a noon to 1 p.m. show on weekdays. The station also plans to broadcast Towson football games this season.

“Jim Rome was just not hitting the buttons,” Pettit said in an interview Monday. “We wanted more than just local voices, we wanted a relationship with the Orioles. We thought having a former player would be really good.”

The station would like to have a similar show with a former Baltimore Raven during football season, Pettit added.

Aside from Jerry Coleman’s 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. show, the 50,000-watt 1370’s only other show with a local sports focus was Rob Long from 8 a.m. to noon. With Hoiles and Charles, the station’s local programming will span from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
